Something old revisited.

I hope everyone is having a wonderful holidays. Above is a oil painting I did a couple of years ago for the "Origins" Expo. They used it in their program book, and had posters of it hanging all around the event. Pretty cool.

But this is one of those paintings that I just was never happy with, so i spent a couple of weeks repainting it, and I still am not happy with it. Ho Hum. I think it is better than it was, but I still feel like something is just off. But for now I am ready to move on to something new. In the next blog I will be posting some sketches of the new one. It is for my portfolio and it is my version of a Conan painting.

I will also be doing some "fine" fantasy art in the coming year. I have a market for that now along with doing portraits, and that should end my days of carpet laying. Thank God. I'm getting to old for that mess. This coming year should be very interesting.

As always, I would love to hear from you. "May the Darkness comfort you"

Happy Thanksgiving Day!

Hello again. It has been a while since I last blogged and I apologize for that. But I finally decided to keep this blog and link it to the website once I make it public. So, in other words, "Welcome to the official blog site of Nick Rose"
More on that in a minute, but first the new painting above. The model for this piece is none other than my friend and Scream Queen Suzi Lorraine. This is the first piece of 4 that I am going to do of her each year to sell in a portfolio pack, and after 3 years we will be featuring a Suzi/Nick calender as well. Once they are available you will be able to purchase them from her or me from our websites or our group of vendors that will be traveling the country. Over the next 2 years we will be making available a huge amount of merchandise to offer to our friends and fans.
I recently saw her movie "Torment" and I have to tell you it really showcased Suzi's talent. She is a wonderful actress and if your into creepy horror, "Torment" is one movie you will not want to miss.
On a personal note, I am really proud of myself. My health has improved in leaps and bounds. The doc was amazed at how well I have managed to get my cholesterol down, and every thing else. I have finally learned how to take care of myself. About time after 51 years. I've also learned how to keep kidney stones out of my body. That was as simple as just adding lemon juice to the water i drink everyday.
So today, on Thanksgiving, I have much to be thankful for. I will always be thankful to Daniel for helping me be a much better artist. This past year I have seen my work come to the point to where I can paint it the way I see it in my mind. For so many many years that was just impossible for me to do. Mostly because of my lack of training, but now I am so excited about the paintings yet to come and some old ideals I always felt I could have done so much better.
If your an artist reading this, then you will understand what I mean when I say, being born an artist sometimes is a curse and sometimes a true blessing. But when you see one of your creations breathe life, there is no other greater satisfaction you can feel. You feel that all the years and years of struggling and frustration has finally paid off.
I don't know about you but I am thrilled that Obama won the election. I really feel that this man is going to turn our economy around. I was very impressed to see him get straight to work. Most of us have struggled these last several years but I feel very positive about the coming years.
Now back to this being my official blog. I hope you will check by from time to time to see new works, works in progress, and news about what's going on in "Nick Rose Enterprises" For my fellow artist I will be sharing tips on things I have learned and things yet to be learned.
So Happy Holidays all!

Moving Forward.

Hello to all that read this, which is few I am sure. I have put no meta-tags on the blog, nor have I promoted it in any way. I'm not even sure I will keep this blog. It depends on whether or not the domain host I go with for my new website offers a blog feature.

I have changed a great deal, and matured in ways I am not sure is good or not. So far, so good, so far. My goals as an Artist and Man have changed drastically. As an artist my main goals are to become the best I can and open my mind to new ideals that have been hard to obtain in the past. I also intent to become the most professional professional out there. I want the Art Director's and Buyers to enjoy their experience working with me. Quite often that means putting the ego on the shelf and bending to their will to give them the "vision" that they see. After all, that is my job as an illustrator. So many artist can't get past that thought.

My goals as a man are private, but I promise you, you would be surprised if you knew me personally. As an artist, things are going very well. The new work is winning award after award from a group of peers, other artist, AD's, and buyers. When this crowd is honoring you, it really means something. I think the "Dark" turn my work has taken has really people noticing, and I love doing it. The piece above is called "Dark Justice" and the model is Daniel's wife Joy. She is by far one of the best models I have ever Painted. I have a new model "Melissa" who will be shooting on Nov. 8th. She has a wonderful "dark and edgy" look.

Stay tuned here, and if I do move the blog, I will post a note to the new addy.

"May you find comfort in the darkness"

I return........

Most of you may not know me. I have been gone for several years. It has always been my dream to be a professional Illustrator so i set out to get the training i needed to make my dream happen. For the last 3 years I have trained under a Master Artist. One of the all time greats of the fantasy field, Daniel Horne. I also trained under Todd Lockwood for a year. I have worked my ass off and it shows. Look above.
I swore i wouldn't do a blog again, but sh*t happens, and here I am again. I hope to enlighten, teach, promote, and show new works here. I also will promote my friends, but I WILL NOT talk about my personal life.
It's going to be a few weeks before i have this blog looking the way I want and to also to finish the website I have been working on. So if you like your art to have a dark edge and want to know the inner workings of publishing, check back in from time to time. Don't be afraid to comment, please. Till next time, "May the Darkness comfort you"
